Perhaps this is why

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 7:13 am

Perhaps this is why they did not have a job in the first place and why they are probably still looking for a job today. One thing that always bothered me on resumes was someone that had so many jobs in the past that they jumped every two years to a different employer. This did not sit well with me, although I also saw some brilliance in the strategy in that they seemed to have all the qualifications we needed.

Recently I talked to a couple of gals who did a lot of line dating and they mentioned the same thing that every guy looks perfect on the computer screen until you meet them face-to-face and find out that they are not really what they’re looking for.

Pilot and The Ledger-Star, Norfolk, VA – local students keep it simple, win a prize

local students keep it simple, win a prize

If a group of eighth-graders ran the city bus system, it might get a whole lot more efficient. Twelve Kemps Landing Magnet students have won a national competition for designing a network of gas- electric hybrid buses for the Beach.

“Right now, buses stop in the middle of roads. Ours would stop in parking lots and ease congestion,” said Kevin Hu, 14, who wants to be a surgeon or engineer.

The students devised a system based around seven major stops at bases, Pembroke and Lynnhaven malls and the Oceanfront. From there, shuttle buses would take commuters into neighborhoods.

Their plan won this year’s Garrett Morgan Sustainable Transportation for the 21st Century Program, sponsored by the Mineta Transportation Institute.

Spokeswoman Donna Maurillo said the Beach students stood out because they’d analyzed the feasibility of their project, including a financial analysis.

Celine Brass, 14, who wants to be a musician or architect, was chosen by her peers to represent the school at the Morgan symposium in San Jose, Calif., in June.

“Sustainable transportation is definitely more possible than a lot of people think,” she said. “Common solutions like light rail might not be the most practical. If we think simpler, that sometimes works better.”

GIVE GIS SHARK REPELLENT

GIVE GIS SHARK REPELLENT

0 Comments | Palm Beach Post, Sep 22, 2006

Congress talks a lot about supporting the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, but lawmakers have done a deplorable job of protecting young soldiers from predatory lenders who cluster around U.S. bases.

New recruits who have guaranteed incomes but little financial savvy are ideal targets for payday loan companies that charge loan- shark-level interest rates of between 390 percent and 780 percent on sums that typically average about $350. A Department of Defense report found that about 225,000 service members have used the loans. That’s roughly 17 percent of the men and women in uniform. In some branches during the past five years, the number of personnel who lost security clearances because of financial problems from oppressive loans rose 1,600 percent. The government also has failed to protect recruits from disreputable life insurance agents who lurk around military installations.

The Pentagon repeatedly has asked Congress to crack down on the loan-sharking. Incredibly, some House Republicans are poised to let lenders charge even higher rates. A proposal by Rep. Geoff Davis, R- Ky., would reject a Senate amendment to cap payday interest rates at 36 percent for military borrowers. What reputable business can’t turn a profit charging 36 percent? Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., who sponsored the Senate proposal with Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., fears that the payday loan industry will shape the legislation that comes out of the conference committee. Besides Rep. Davis’ opposition, Rep. Steve Buyer, R-Ind., chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, also is wavering.

Sen. Nelson says he has “grave suspicions” that conferees may eliminate the interest cap as part of a compromise that will sell out military families. Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., who supports Sen. Nelson, says it the best: “Payday loan lenders that charge 390 percent interest and outrageous loan fees ought to be exposed for what they are — abusive and unconscionable.”

If fairness isn’t reason enough for the House conferees to do the right thing, they might consider a more self-serving motivation

EverBank CEO says acquisition doesn’t signal any new strategy

0 Comments | Florida Times Union, Jun 3, 2010 | by MARK BASCH

EverBank is a somewhat unique bank. It’s big in size, with $9.6 billion in assets as of March 31. But for a nationwide bank, its branch network is very small – just four, all in its home city of Jacksonville. Most of its business is done through the Internet or by telephone.

So it seemed unusual last week when EverBank acquired the banking operations of the Bank of Florida Corp., which had 13 branches in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale, Tampa Bay and Naples/Fort Myers markets. That basically quadruples EverBank’s branch network.

But in an interview Wednesday, EverBank Chairman and CEO Rob Clements said the deal does not signify a new strategy.

“It’s not really a change in our focus,” he said

Railing/Balustrade types, usages and legal requirements

There is much confusion and many rumors in the market place regarding the legal requirements for railings or balustrades.

This breaks downs to a few subjects

What materials are allowed?

What height is required?

What loadings are these balustrades meant to withstand and how are these applied, tested or calculated?

What categories are there for different railing or balustrade usages or areas?

The information below is an attempt to simplify and translate into layman’s terms what is basically stated in BS6180:1999 “Barriers in and about buildings – Code of practice”. The information on the loadings is taken from BS6399-1:1996 “Loadings for buildings – Part1: Code of practice for dead and imposed loads”

What materials are allowed?

There is no limitation per se which material can be used as the balustrade structure, obviously the material chosen must be

1) Rigid and strong, be able to resist and not bend under pressure.
2) Durable and suitable to the area they are to be applied to.

Plastics are not usually used for balustrade structures, but rather metallic elements such as steel, stainless steel or aluminium. Wood is and has been a popular material but maintenance becomes an element to take into consideration.

Sometimes the balustrade structure includes and is the barrier, such as in the case of bars or perforated metal panels

I have a lot of students who just seem to hate all

Actually, we have a lot of wonderful student attitude

Although there is no direct evidence

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:49 am

Although there is no direct evidence that suggests that certain foods cause this condition, certain foods can exacerbate the symptoms in some people.

In general, all foods worsen the symptoms of GERD. This is because when food enters the stomach it stimulates the production of acid to aid in the digestion of food. This acid could reflux back up into the esophagus. In fact a very large meal could cause even non-GERD sufferers to experience occasional heartburn.

A person who suffers from this disease may wonder what they can do reduce the symptoms of GERD. Seeking professional assistance is always recommended when dealing with a serious condition such as this one. However, there are things a person can do on their own to help themselves lead a pain-free life. Changing their diet is the first step in helping themselves. A diet to prevent or reduce acid reflux is easy to follow. Avoiding foods that aggravate acid reflux such as fatty foods, whole milk, chocolate, and spicy foods is the first step.
