Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygenation in Oncology

Today we come to talk to you about the benefits of hyperbaric oxygenation in oncology.

Many may not yet know this fact, but the reality is that a hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or also known as HBO, is very beneficial in the treatment of some types of cancer. Not only that, but it has many benefits to help reverse the effects produced by cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy.
Hyperbaric oxygenation in oncology has a triple indication:

Firstly, it is considered a successful therapeutic modality for the treatment of late radiation lesions and the prevention of such lesions, an indication that is recognized by the UHMS (Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society ) . We refer to osteoradionecrosis, which appears mainly in the jaw due to oral and oropharyngeal cancer radiation, thoracic wall necrosis, consequence of radiation from lung tumors, breast or esophagus, radic hemorrhagic cystitis, abdominal and pelvic lesions and neurological lesions by radiation.

Secondly, HBO is a radiosensitizer, which, used before radiotherapy, increases its therapeutic effect on the tumor.

Finally, to treat the entire clinical picture that appears as a result of chemotherapy, such as the shortage of stem cells, anemia and general deterioration that generates a significant sense of disease, with decreased energy and defenses, the use of HBO reverses this situation, producing an acceleration of cell recovery with considerable clinical improvement.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, together with other specific oncological treatments, can help to make it much easier to suffer a tumour, repairing collateral damage or even minimising the impact.
